Auto and Motor · Tags: car , bumper , polyester , repair
You know, a bit too far forward or back and you hear a little crack. With a polyester or plastic bumper do you have soon a crack or even break something. But rest assured, this may very well be repaired.

Well you should carefully consider whether the bumper is made of polyester or plastic.
Important:
The following just for polyester bumpers. If you are repaired with a polyester plastic bumpers, this crack over time.
For plastic bumpers, you can use the same method, replace or polyester than Plasticol Dinitrol Plastic repair filler 6070. These are a type 2 component paste. Dinitrol only in gray to get Plasticol in different colors. It gives a more sustainable outcome on plastic.
Below is an explanation how a polyester damage repairs itself.
I explain below step by step how you can repair your bumper. The same process can also use it when you "rough black bumper" in the color of your car want to spray.
What you need:
- Fine mesh gauze.
- Repairkit.
- Polyester mats.
- A bus polyester resin. (Use good quality)
- Polyester curing agent.
- Plastic tray and plastic spatula. (For the mixing of the components)
- Rubber gloves. (And old clothes, because dried polyester is virtually no more of clothes.)
- Waterproof Sandpaper. (Grit 600 and 200)
How do you work:
- Disassemble the bumper and put it down so that you look at all sides of the damage can come.
- Cut the mesh to size of the hole so it fits perfectly. (It should just stay clamp)
- Glue the wire with the tip attached to the bumper with repairkit and let it dry thoroughly. (Mix it in the right proportions!)
- Now cut the polyester mats tailored for the hole. After the thickness, use multiple mats.
- Make some repairkit with hardener and mix well. Stir finally a note pad so that it is soaked with the mixture.
- Take this mat and place it in the hole. and press it gently on the gauze with a plastic spatula.
- Repeat as often as needed until the hole is well filled.
- Just make sure you keep the mats firmly stroking so that no air bubbles between stay and that the surface can be as tight as possible.
- The tighter the mats in the hole are the better the end result will be.
- Allow to dry.
- When everything is dry you can rub the bumper tight. (The polyester mats are not doing!)
- Make a quantity of polyester resin with hardener, apply to all irregularities. The place where you have made polyester mats. Do this so that there is a surface formed as smooth as possible.
- Let it calm to harden.
- Now the whole abrasive again so that there is a perfectly smooth surface. You can start with coarse sandpaper and finish with 600 grit.
- Do not forget to use enough water that you regularly refreshed!
- If the whole is perfectly smooth and you are satisfied with this result you can see the bumper in primer spraying.
- Then it's a matter of good finishes with paint and varnish.
It is important that you take the time to take: "The more attention you devote to this work, the better the result."

If in your case just a "dent", I recommend you first contact with a company that "Spot repair" does. This is a new technique of local repair / restore scratches and dents. This often happens even at home.
Find yourself in google.nl to "spot repair". Take a few pictures of the dent and mail sent to a few companies to ask what that would cost.
Is this all too expensive then continue with the following:
Because you say that a "dent" in it, seems to me that the bumper is made of plastic. Polyester breaks or tears earlier.
But the best is that the questions to the dealer (questions is free).
If indeed a 'dent' and does not tear (little), try the first place dented back. This could possibly bartsjes arise, but that can be parried well reproduced by the above statement.
One tip is to place the first heat of the dent with a hair dryer for example (not too hot, it should not melt or warp!) Before making it back into shape.
For best paint you can better inform a car accessory company. Take the car over and let them see the bumper. They can then inform you what the best spray paint to be the most suitable.

Is the bumper itself to spray paint and you also know the number?
Like to hear from you.

Hello,
I am Koos raft from Urk and had a question about repairing my rear of my ford escort clipper 1.6 from 1997.
I en the two oblique cracks by grinding filled with plastic repair filler of Motip.
Whereupon I have sanded, and a beautiful smooth surface so I've got nothing more after 400 grit wet feel.
That was in the shade at about 20 degrees when I put him in the sun, the filler bolt and separately from the bumper.
Conclusion, the bumper stretches and shrinks, what could I do to whatever the temperature just fine to keep.
Sincerely,
Koos Raft

Hi Koos,
Difficult for me to answer, since I myself am not a specialist in the field of plastic or polyester repairs.
What I do know is that there is a big gap between flexible plastic (which often are car bumpers) as 'soft' and that it is a much harder polyester product. With the result that the use of two different products, they expansion different from each other responsive to temperature differences.
This can also cause your case.
Not all car bumpers are of the same material, so it is very important to ascertain what kind of material before the bumper to the right repair products to choose from.
I've read that the site Motip "MoTip Bumper Repair Putty" is indeed elastic (what most repair products). The only question is, what is the difference between the expansion coefficient between the two plastics.
I personally have ever repaired by a plastic bumper on both sides (back and front) using polyester called 'mats'. These mats integrate (along with the hardening slag) is actually the bumper itself. To prevent expansion cracks, I smeared this repair in 4 days, so that after each stage the bumper with polyester could well get used to the temperature and natural interoperation. This bumper is almost 3 years remained good, then I began again 'cracks' to see.

Bart

Thank you Bart for your response, I'll just quietly consider whether it might be a new bumper, it remains perslot still a weak link in the whole.
With friendly greetings

You can also chose the cracks oblique edges so that you do with a hot air blower in a plastic weld connection can melt
On soft plastic bumpers plastic filler is not always the best solution because the bumper is quite flexible and not curing the filler (a bit small subsidence may have to get away from plastic)
After welding the edges with a sanding P180 (Not to be rude because you rub your plastic fast break)
And further gwn finishing with a 220 and / or 320 for the primer
It is a relatively late response but maybe you can get some more in the future, greetings

Hello,
I recently built an Audi TT 2007. At the rear is a door which is the towing eye. The previous owner was probably not open this door and a screwdriver for this purpose. The flap is flawless, but the bumper is slightly damaged (the size of 2 by 2 mm, the plastic pressed together, are prying with the screwdriver). I am going to ask what it will cost to repair. I was told 150. Since such a small area and a lot of expertise sitting here, I would like to advice you want to use.
Hoping for good news!
